Mission in ZimbabweOn Saturday 10th May 2014 six Brits travelled together to Harare Zimbabwe to have the experience of a lifetime. I had the privilege of being one of them. Rob had shared at the MV conference the wonderful experience he had had sailing to remote villages and sharing the love of Jesus with the Tonga people on the beautiful shores of Lake Kariba. God had stirred our hearts to be involved and go see for ourselves. We were excited at the prospect of what God was going to do in and through us. Bruce and Sue Douglas who own the Disciple Ship (our home for nine days), were to be our guides and hosts for the duration of the trip.

Zimbabwe: Rob's TeamI could not have imagined how blessed we were going to be. Bruce set aside several hours each day for a time of worship, study of the word and ministry as needed for each team member. We were filled afresh with the Holy Spirit and greatly encouraged and uplifted through prophecy to one another. This equipped us to be able to share the Gospel of Jesus with boldness. One such occasion will be etched in my heart and mind.

We had moored for the night and woke to discover that the boat’s battery was flat and we were going nowhere. After our morning meeting we looked out onto the lake and saw three men in a paddle boat. All but one of us suspected they may have been poachers. Alan reminded us that everyone had the potential to receive Jesus and immediately Sue and Malachi went over to them in the small fishing boat. Malachi was a new Christian and was asked to share his testimony for the first time with these men who were actually just fishing in order to bring food home for their families. They listened and accepted Christ there and then. Sue encouraged them to come to the boat and we would baptise them. Within a few minutes we were holding a baptismal service for three fishermen whose lives would be changed forever. It reminded me of what it must have been like when Jesus walked on the shore and called his disciples to “Come Follow Me”. God clearly had a purpose for us to stay in that place a while longer.

I thank God for the beauty of his creation, the African sky at night with its marvellous constellation of stars. All the animals, elephants, hippos, impala the colourful birds and even the crocs. The opportunities to speak of the love of Jesus. YOU are a truly amazing GOD.
