"A Mission for Vision "
Isn't it true that when we step out in faith, with love and willingness to serve God, He always amazes us with the extent of His blessings? This was illustrated so clearly during the Optometry Team Trip to Uganda in Nov/Dec 2005. See the Video.
The vision of Ian Squire and his team was to use their optometry and eye-care skills as a platform from which to minister hope and salvation to the people of the Kamvengye District. They travelled initially to Mahyoro Village, on the shore of Lake George. An excited crowd gathered awaiting their arrival. Many had endured as much as a days journey to be there but spirits were high, everyone full of hope and expectation.
The need was immediately apparent as long queues formed. Over the next five and a half days...
2000 people were screened
1200 people were tested
1500 pairs of glasses were dispensed
1000 people received eye drops for infections and
52 people were taken the two and a half hour journey to the Ruharo Eye Centre in Mbarara for cataract operations.
Among these was Ayoka, a grandmother who had been totally blind for three years. During this time Anna, her granddaughter had given up her education to look after her. A twenty minute operation restored Ayoka's sight. Everyone's joy on her return to the village was overwhelming. Ayoka could see and Anna was able to return to school. Praise God!
As if this wasn't enough, there was even more success to report. As the queues of people waited for examinations and treatment, the Word was preached and there were times of worship. The crowds heard the Good News, hearts were moved and an estimated 800 people responded to the gospel!! Yes, God is faithful.
We thank the Optometry Team for their excellent work in Uganda. If you would like to serve God in a similar way please get in touch with the office for information.
